2017-2018 First IPS Community Note

Dear IPS Families,

Eid Mubarak!  We hope you are ALL enjoying the final weeks of your summer holiday and look forward to seeing you soon.  Although we frequently send community notes, you may also periodically check our website for updates and announcements. We also continue to expand our social media presence with IPS Facebook and are interested to hear from YOU what other areas (Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc?) we should pursue.

We are EXTREMELY excited to be offering the IB Diploma Program for the first time with our Grade 11 students AND to continue our authorization journey with IB Primary Years Program with our KG thru Grade 6 students.  Check out the video links above to share in our excitement.

As we start the year, let’s also recognize our Student Council Leadership:  Lina Hadi, President;  Sami Sibai, VP; Shahad Al Nujaidi, Secretary; Reem Al Suwaiyan, Treasurer; Dana Al Enezi, Historian; and Fahad Al Kahmous, Parliamentarian.  This will be an exciting year with these students “at the helm”!

Finally, getting ready for the re-start of school is exciting!  Here are some important details:

  1. Classes start for ALL students on Sunday, September 17 @ 7:50 AM.  Please plan transportation to arrive earlier than usual as traffic in the first few days can be a challenge.  Class lists and guidance to classrooms will be displayed throughout the school during our first few days.

  2. 2017-18 IPS Student Dismissal Information Form - Please complete the form before Tuesday, September 12.

  3. Open Houses -

    1. KG 1 & KG 2:  Thursday, Sept. 14 from 12:00 - 1:30.  We invite you to come meet your child's teachers and see his/her classroom. This extremely important event will help your child feel comfortable and confident on Day 1!

    2. New Families (G1-G12) - Thursday, Sept. 14 from 2:00 - 3:30 - a chance to orient NEW students before opening day on Sunday, Sept. 17.

    3. ALL Families except KG 1 & 2 - Thursday, Oct. 5 from 3:30 - 4:30 - an opportunity for students to guide parents and families through their learning!

  4. School Supplies - all of these should be in place within the first week of school.

    1. Reuseable Water Bottles - help us to eliminate disposable plastic!  Everyone should come to school with a labeled FULL re-usable water bottle - refills will be available throughout the school

    2. Lunch Boxes - we ALL pack our healthy lunch and snacks!

    3. Hats & Sunscreen - sensible precautions for ALL!!!

    4. Uniforms - for your convenience, these are available at Adeem Uniform in Al Khobar Mall (0138820534).  All students are expected to be in proper uniform at all times. Please label all items of clothing using a permanent marker.

    5. Stationery Items - for your convenience, packages of school supplies are ready for purchase at Zamil’s - their price list is here AND includes delivery to IPS.

      1. In the event you’d like to purchase these separately, the full list of supplies is linked here (please notice the grade tabs at the bottom of the document).

    6. Technology - Our school uses a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program.  Teachers will direct students as to WHEN to bring and use devices.  Parents please provide your IPS student with a device that meets the minimum requirements as highly recommended by the staff and administration:

      1. Grades KG - G3 a tablet (iPad preferred) or laptop computer.  (See note below)

      2. Grades 4-12 a laptop computer.  (See note below)

      3. NOTE TO KG-12: Minimum laptop requirements can be found by clicking on this LINK.  All laptops and tablets brought to school will be evaluated by the IT Department from September 17 - 29, 2017.  Laptops not meeting the minimum requirements will not be permitted on the school network.  Permitted devices will be stickered so all are aware of accepted devices.

      4. A final, special reminder - all personal electronic devices on campus may ONLY be used for educational purpose at the direction of a teacher.

We have enjoyed a HOT summer and look forward to the start of school with students.  Our New School Building Project has been progressing nicely, check out these New School Pictures.  These are exciting times to be a part of IPS.  Thank you for being with us this year!
